Clean Campus Initiative

To tackle the ongoing issues with campus aesthetics, safety, hygiene, and lack of environmental awareness among the university community, Kookmin University (KMU) has launched the “Clean Campus” policy to create a clean and safe educational environment.
The policies below aim to enhance the university’s image and improve the student learning environment and student satisfaction through a clean and well-maintained campus.
Implementation Direction
1) “Clean Week”: Carry out environmental improvement activities across all campus departments (completed).
2) Repair and improve aging facilities.
3) Digitalize bulletin boards, minimize physical boards, and introduce an approval system for posting periods.
4) Create a management plan for cat shelters on campus.
5) Improve recyclable waste collection and waste storage area operation.
6) Establish a Sustainability and Environment Committee to manage environmental issues and develop clean campus policies.

Smoke-Free Campus
1) Launch an anti-smoking campaign in collaboration with the Student Council, Media Center, and D-Eco Club (March, June, September, December).
2) Collect opinions from enrolled students regarding smoke-free campus measures (end of April).
3) Reinstall smoking area signs and no-smoking signs (Apr. 10).
4) Reduce and relocate on-campus smoking areas in collaboration with the Safety Management Team and Facilities Team (end of June).
5) Review banning cigarette sales at on-campus convenience stores (end of May).
6) Prohibit smoking outside designated areas and promote no-smoking awareness (end of April).
7) Enforce no-smoking outside designated areas (ongoing).
