Kookmin University's first semester team class of the 2024 academic year, “Urban Forestry and Environmental Policy (Prof. Wanmo Kang, Department of Forestry and Environmental Systems, College of Science and Technology) and Environmental Law (Prof. Sungbae Kim, Public Law Major, College of Law),” won a bronze award at the '2024 Communication for a Happy Seongbuk (Asteroid)' contest.

The contest aimed to recruit young people living in Seongbuk-gu and students at universities in Seongbuk-gu to come up with ideas for recycling resources for a clean and tidy “Clean Seongbuk” and to discover novel policy ideas in all areas that affect residents' lives, including education, welfare, culture, safety, transportation, and environment. As a result of the contest, a total of six teams were selected, including one silver prize (500,000 won) and five bronze prizes (300,000 won), and student Shin Gyo-sun won the bronze prize with the theme of 'Special Journey, Seongbuk Love Storytelling'.

“Through the Team Team Class, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of environmental law and policy, and through the preparation for the competition, I was able to gain practical experience. In particular, the process of learning not only legal theories but also practical contents such as policy idea development and budget planning was very helpful in refining the policies proposed in this competition.” ‘I will continue to pay more attention to environmental policy based on these learnings and strive to make a positive impact in the actual policy field,’ said Shin. Professor Wanmo Kang of the Department of Forest and Environmental Systems said, “We expect that our environmental policy planning and practical skills have been greatly improved through participation in the Asteroid Competition, which was held as an in-depth course of Team Team Class, which links policy and environmental law majors, and as an extension of social linkage activities.”
