Students Junyoung Gil, Mungmin Moon, and Seohyun Kim from the Department of Construction Systems Engineering (Advisor: Shin Ju Young) won the grand prize (1st place) and received KRW 2 million in prize money at the 2024 K-water Public Water Big Data Competition held on Wednesday, August 14th. The students developed a 'real-time AI water supply risk prediction service based on emergency water supply data' and developed a real-time prediction model based on actual drought damage and impacts, and received excellent evaluations in terms of methodological suitability and program effectiveness, winning the award through fierce competition.

The K-water Public Water Big Data Competition is a competitive contest that is open to all companies, the public, university students, and graduate students, and has a long history of utilizing public data in the water environment. The theme of the 2024 K-water National Water Big Data Competition is “Free topics that can contribute to improving national water services and solving water problems,” and many teams have applied for the past seven years to develop various ideas and services on topics broader than the theme.

The students on the team from the School of Construction Systems Engineering at KU are participants in the “Digital Water Industry Innovation Talent Training Project (WATER-AI Training Program)” and have developed their big data and artificial intelligence knowledge and problem-solving skills based on problem-based learning. The students who participated in the contest expressed the following impressions.

“We are happy to have won such a big prize in the first competition, competing with excellent students from other schools, and we are grateful to our teammates who prepared hard and stayed up all night, and to our professors who helped us a lot,” said the students.
