Best Student Paper Award, Best Poster Award From WISA 2022

Between Aug. 24 and Aug. 27, the 23rd World Conference on Information Security Applications (WISA) took place at Maison GLAD in Jeju. Kookmin University (KMU) students took part
in the conference and the won several awards. An Sung-Hyun and Woo Ji-Eun of SICADA lab, working with Professor Han Dong-Guk, took home the prizes, while An Sung-Hyun won the
Best Student Award and Woo Ji-Eun won the Best Poster Award.

WISA is hosted every summer by the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology (KIISC) and sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP).
It’s co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and the National Security Research Institute (NSR).

“Illegal Photo Shoot Detection Method Using Operating Frequency of Smartphone Camera,” won the Best Student Award, suggesting the way to separate the camera off/on
function during shooting beyond what the existing technology can detect using electromagnetic waves emitted from a smartphone. If this is used, it shows the advantage of being
able to catch an attacker by using it as evidence that the photo shoot was detected without the result of illegal filming.
“Deep learning-based Profiling Side-Channel Analysis Using Unsupervised Domain Adaptation on Different Device,” by Woo Ji-Eun won the Best Poster Award. It suggested a new
attack method that can perform effective profiling side-channel analysis by using an unsupervised domain adaptation.
This research showed that it can raise the attack performance by building the environment with five different devices and reducing the domain difference between the profiling device
and the attack device.

Meanwhile, the SICADA lab has researched under side-channel analysis. They received excellent grades by taking part in a
symposium and an open exhibition, including the second prize
in “the 2022 HACK@SEC Competition”
