The 2011 International Micro Robot Maze Contest was held on November 6th at Noyori Conference Hall in Japan. Students from the Kookmin University Graduate School of Automotive Engineering and Mechanical Automotive Engineering participated in this contest and came in second overall in the competition.

This annual contest has been held for twenty years by Nagoya University with 19 teams from 7 different countries, including Korea, America, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia competing in the six categories. Also, an international symposium was carried out about MHS (Micro Mechatronics &Human Science). The contest is aimed to interest young engineers on innovations in techniques, and has a goal to share ideas about science and technology through various countries' participation.

In this competition, our team each won the first and second place in Category 2b and Category 2a in which ranks are decided by runtime of the robot one inch wide passing through the seven appointed spots. And we received a special prize in Category 3b, which competed over the capacity of performance on free topics by the robots that were capable of bipedal walk. Overall we ranked in second place by having a winner from one category, two second places from two categories, and two special prizes from two categories.

Our school has participated in the contest since 2003, and our team won the overall championship for three years in succession from 2008 to 2010, as well as in some segments every year. This year, we reached second place overall and this reflected our technological skills on micro robots throughout the world.

Student Han Young Min said "The game rules were greatly changed without much notice so that our result is lower than last year, but we're honored to be nominated for second overall. It was a great experience for everyone to share their knowledge with engineers around the world."
