“Yellow Diamond” by Yun-Gyu Chang (School of Architecture) won the grand prize at the 2011 Seoul Architecture Awards

This year will be twenty-ninth time the ‘Seoul Architecture
Awards’ has lived up to its reputation as the most distinguished awards in the
architectural field in Seoul. Every year, the award recognizes architecture
having both artistic value and a level of technology, have made outstanding
contributions to the improvement of the culture in Seoul.
The “Yellow
Diamond” is the result of joint efforts with Japanese architect Mitsui Jun, and
it has been receiving wonderful reviews for a new paradigm in general commercial
facilities. The feedback is saying that “Yellow Diamond” is continuous with the
street culture in Hongdae taking the public place into architecture. Through the
facade of the building, made from yellow glass and transparent glass that blend
beautifully with nature by absorbing and reflecting the area of the city, people
can see the projection of various landscapes.
The 29th Seoul Architecture
Awards will be held at the Outdoor Special Stage in Dongdaemun History &
Culture Park beginning at 4pm on September 22nd. Award-winning architectures
will be on display from September 22nd to October 1st. The person who wins the
top prize will get official commendation from the Mayor of Seoul, and a special
privilege of working as a commissioner on architecture and public architect of
Seoul. And the winner in the area of architecture will be recommended for the
member of Construction Skills' Committee. Also, the award ceremony will be
followed by an architecture concert, with a grand opening ceremony lead by
Professor Yun-Gyu Chang. The main theme of this concert will be Architecture and
Fashion.
Professor Yun-Gyu Chang
is… An active architect who makes energetic contributions in worldwide architecture realization through experimental and progressive works in the architectural area. In 2007, he won the AR Award, a well-known prize in architecture, given by England's magazine 'Architectural Review'. In 2006, he also got the Design Vanguard Award from the American international magazine 'Architectural Record'. He gained an international reputation through winning these awards. In addition, he won many prizes from the Korean Institute of Architects, the Korean Architecture Awards (KAA), and the Seoul Architecture Awards. |
