Kookmin University (President Jeong Seung Ryul) held a presentation on the College of Fine Arts and the Self-Selection of Majors at the Kookmin University Concert Hall on Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. The presentation was held at the College of Fine Arts. The event was attended by about 400 students and parents preparing for the entrance examination.

At the briefing, the participants learned more about the ▲College of Architecture's major accomplishments and vision ▲the College of Architecture's talented students ▲the entrance examination system and past results ▲application strategies ▲the direction and explanation of the actual examination questions for each year ▲introduction of the self-selection system for majors.

Kookmin University President Jeong Seung Ryul, who delivered a welcome speech, said, "Kookmin University will select 828 students in the freshman class of 2025 who can freely choose their majors without distinction, the largest number among major universities in the metropolitan area." He emphasized, "This is a selection strategy that is in line with Kookmin University's vision to build an educational ecosystem without academic and physical boundaries based on the spirit of community and pragmatic educational philosophy." He also said, "The self-selective major system, which will be implemented for the first time this year, will have a lot of influence on future admissions, so this briefing session will provide a lot of useful information for students and parents."

"As the first design university in Korea established in 1975, Kookmin University's College of Architecture is in an important position in Korea's design education and continues to foster core human resources," said Jang Jung Sik, Dean of the College of Architecture (Professor, Department of Industrial Design). "We also pay a lot of attention to international exchanges and run exchange student programs with 18 countries including the United States to enhance our students' global competitiveness so that they can be used on the world stage.

Professor Lee Joon Hee of the Department of Visual Design explained the purpose of the exam and the questions that have been asked in the past. "The students we want to recruit are students who are capable of designing well in each of the nine majors," said Professor Lee. "In order to design well, it is important to have the ability to analyze and plan the issue in detail and the problem-solving ability to solve it efficiently, so we select students by designing problems based on these." "In particular, Kookmin University's free major selection system is differentiated from other universities in that students can freely choose most majors, including humanities, nature, and arts and sciences, so it is recommended that students consider this aspect when applying for admission," Lee said.
