Sungkok Memorial Hall, whichhonors "Sungkok" Sung-Kon Kim, commenced with it's opening event on 18th April 2011 4:00P.M. It was an event where we could feel his grace, remember his achievements, and hear him asking, "how are you?" because he cared for others around him.

Attending the opening event were Suk Won Kim, the oldest son of Sir Sungkok, former president of the SsangyongGroup;Ssangyong Chairman, Jong Woo Han;the President of Kookmin University, Sung Woo Lee, along with many others. The event began withprofessor Jong Ki Park's narrative on the memorial hall, which exhibitsthe articles left after Sungkok died, items in his own handwriting, and medals received during his lifetime; all describing his career and life in detail.

Despite Sir Sungkok'sworld renowned, remarkable cement business, he always led a thrifty life and made a good impression on people around him. He never thought thatthe property from his business was separate from the property of his nation. He who experienced the grief of a nation under Japanese occupation thought we needed to cultivate people of talent for retaining and developing our nation and people.

He thought people of talent must prepare intelligent and practical knowledge.

He took over Kookmin University to realize his belief that education should be carried out without any management of nation or government power and led development of Kookmin University as securing foundation's stability. He suggested 4 educational ideologies to fulfill his wish to make Kookmin University be perfect compared to any other schools.

1. The beautiful mind for our people: 'Nationalism'

Sir Sungkok who experienced the grief of our people, lost many things underthe Japanese occupation period. He had a strict belief that life is not complete without the people, so with this belief as his ideal, he developed every business as 'ours' and believed the business would belong to the nation.

2.Human nature is to take moral virtue for granted: 'Humanism'

He emphasized diligence and honesty among the people's many virtues, and he thought that luxury and complacency were sins. He also believed that people without sincerity are of no value.

3.Fosterage and development of national culture: 'Culturism'

He considered our people's livessynonymouswith our culture, so its scholars and journalistsare the ones in charge of thefostering, development and creation of our people's culture.

4. Contribution for development through cultivating and development of our business: 'Industrialism'

The enterprise is to be focused on cultivating people of industrial talent to promote industry and contribute to the development of our nation and society, not for the pursuit of profit.
