Starting on April 17th, Kookmin University(KMU) began operating a vegetarian diet. The reason that our school operates a vegetari-an diet is, the student council said, that, “Interest in vegetari-anism is growing and I think universities with diverse members have lack of understanding of these cultures. The council also noted that, “Protecting the environment and animals is becoming why many become vegetarians. But in our school, most of the menu contains a meat-based diet. There are students who wanted a vegetarian option, so starting last winter vacation, the student council searched other universities’ episodes and living cooperative associations. We then, had a TF conference and started vegetarian diet. For better management, we are trying to have a conversation with dietitian every week.”

The student council is promoting the new diet on social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram etc. They believe the vegetarian diet is one of the respect and diversity.
So why is vegetarianism becoming such a trend?

1. Better for a balanced and healthy diet

With a plant-based diet that consists mainly of fruits, vegetables, and grains, foods that are filled with nutrition, you can get the essential nutrients for your balanced diet. The vegetarian diet also contains high levels of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, meanings you will lower your risk of heart diseases.

2. Good for digestion
Vegetarian diets are high in fiber, something lacking in non-vegetarian diets, which explains the long-terms digestion difficulties many non-vegetarians experience. The vegetarian diet, is richi is good bacteria that have positive health benefits, support the immune system, reduce inflammation, and regulate gherlin. Vegetarians are therefore able to digest more quicly than those whose diets are more meat based. This will keep digestive system fuctioning well.
