It is good to see the current advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, which are capable of generating content that will be useful for mankind. On the other hand, there are also potential risks associated with this progress. In a recent interview, Professor Geoffrey Hinton discussed how AI could pose a threat to human beings.
This article covers some of his views and concerns about the current state of generative AI systems. Typically, when we train a machine with a large corpus of data on a powerful computational platform and a good neural network, the model learns well. The current giant AI systems are trained on almost the entire internet, which makes it difficult for humans to do so. As a result, machines are becoming more intelligent than humans.
Additionally, once a machine is trained, the model parameters (weights) can be copied into a file and easily transferred to another machine at a much faster speed. This means that the intelligence of the machine can be used on multiple machines. However, this is not the case with human intelligence. It is difficult to achieve such a transfer, and when a human dies, their intelligence is lost.
In contrast, the intelligence of a machine can be easily transferred to another machine. The knowledge that is learned by a human is specific to that particular brain. The same parameters cannot be put into another brain because that brain may have different characteristics. This indicates that machine intelligence is becoming
increasingly dominant over human intelligence. It is obvious that higher intelligence will dominate intelligence below its level.
The development of new technolo- gies has always been accompanied by concerns about their potential negative impacts. These technologies have the potential to be used for good or for bad, depending on the intentions of the people who used them. As AI systems are becoming increasingly powerful, experts worry that they could be used by people with bad intentions for malicious purposes, such as creating autonomous weapons or spreading misinformation.
However, AI also has the potential to be used for good, such as developing new diagnoses in medical applications. Ultimately, the impact of AI will depend on how it is used.
If we are careful and responsible in our development and use of AI, it can be a force for good in the world. However, if it is being used by people with bad intentions, AI could pose a serious threat to humanity.
So, it is important to start thinking about the potential risks and benefits of AI now so that we can develop policies and regulations that will help ensure that AI is used for good. Researchers and government agencies have recently started working on this, and hopefully, we will soon see the release of the regulations.
