Seohyun Academic Foundation Holds the 2nd Seohyun Academic Award Ceremony

Professor Hee-Sun Jung of Hanyang University and Professor Yoo-Jin Lee of Sejong University received the Grand Prize at the 2nd Seohyun Academic Awards.

The Seohyun Academic Foundation announced on the 3rd that it held the 2nd Seohyun Academic Award Ceremony. The Seohyun Academic Award was launched with the aim of supporting the activities of the next generation of researchers and enhancing their connection to the field, and this year marks its second year.

The top prize was awarded to Professor Heeseon Chung of Hanyang University and Professor Yoojin Lee of Sejong University. The award-winning paper is a joint research paper by the two professors, titled “Does the act of purchasing an audit opinion undermine the independence of the auditor? An empirical analysis using tax avoidance.”

The Seohyun Academic Foundation explained, “The research was selected as the best prize because it explored the ripple effects of the act of purchasing audit opinions from a new angle and presented in-depth empirical evidence on the impact of auditors on tax avoidance.”

One paper each in the fields of accounting and taxation was selected for the second prize.

In the accounting field, a joint research paper by Kyung Hee University Professor Cho Mi-ok, Kookmin University Professor Park So-hee, and Catholic University Professor Kim Beom-jun, who studied the impact of audit committee activities on the quality of financial reporting before audit, was selected. The paper was recognized for its practical and policy implications for improving the effectiveness of audit committees.

The Tax Researcher Award was awarded to Han Byeong-gi, a researcher in the doctoral program at the Seoul National University Law School.

The Excellence Award in the field of accounting was awarded to a joint research paper by Kyung Hee University Professor Cho Mi-ok, Kookmin University Professor Park So-hee, and Catholic University Professor Kim Beom-joon, who studied the impact of audit committee activities on the quality of financial reporting prior to audit.

The paper was recognized for providing practical and policy implications for improving the effectiveness of audit committees.

The Excellence Award in the field of tax was awarded to Han Byeong-gi, a researcher in the doctoral program at the Seoul National University Law School. Han Byeong-gi was recognized for presenting in-depth arguments from a legislative perspective on value-added tax policy in his paper, “A Study on Value-Added Taxation of Remote Services Provided by Non-Residents to Residents.”

The Seohyun Academic Foundation is the first academic foundation of an accounting firm, which was organized in 2022 through the voluntary contribution of employees of Seohyun Accounting Corporation. The Seohyun Academic Foundation plans to continue to support the promotion of academic research and R&D activities in the fields of accounting, taxation, and finance through the Seohyun Academic Award.
