There was a person who wanted to be a cartoonistrunning toward her dream.She had been thinking that her life would startwith cartoons and finishwith cartoons. However in hermid-twenties, she had a new dream: being ajudge in a society of injustice. Her challenge was not easy.Young Jae Ryoois 'designing' the society- let's meet her!

Q: How did you choose design as your major after you graduated from Daewon Foreign Language High school?
A: Most people think that I choose art as a major because I couldn't adapt to school but that's not actually true.It was ironic for me to enter a foreign language high school, because when I was young my dream was always to be a cartoonist. When I was a high school student I knew I could go to university withoutattending any private institutions and I thought design would be better than art as a my major so I chose it.

Q: What kind of student were you?
A: I think I was a unique student. Surely, I was not in the mainstream. I didn't care about my scores and I did what I wanted, alone. I was a hardworking person but now I think that's not the only important thing.

Q: What is the most memorable thingfrom your school days?
A: I lived at school almost half a month.Like most students who major in design, I lived there like it was a training camp having classes in the daytime and doing art at night. At that time it was so hard,butIstill had a good time.

Q: What is the reason you chose to study the bar exam?
A: I didn't have confidence to be a good designer with mymajor in design. When I began to think about my future seriously, my father recommended that I study the bar exam.Finally I decided to do it so I went to Shillim dong in February of 2006.

Q: Was it hard to study the bar examafter having studied a different major?
A: At first, I thought that.But I believed that I could overcome the gap betweenme andthe people who majored in law.

Q: Did you have a special way to pass the exam quicker compared with others?
A: First of all, I made studying fun. I think studying law fit me.Also, mydesperate situation pushed me as well. Surely others also are desperate but I thought I was the most desperate person when I studied. Lastly, I got a tip from someone on how to study better. I learned to understandthe rulesrather than memorize everything, so I want to share my way of studying with other students. That's why I posted my methods on theInternet.

Q. Your writing on theInternet is very popular among students who study for the bar exam. Can you explain more about why you post your methodson internet?
A. I'm sure that my way of studying could be helpful to them. I hopedthese methodswould be helpful for them while I was writing them. When I post themit's a bit of a burden but I feel that helping someone else is a worth it.

Q. Did you think that you could pass quickly like that when you prepared for the bar exam?
A. I had studied with this thinking:'Unconditional Pass'. I thought I couldn't pass without having confidence, however,I never thought that I could fail.Not once did I think I would fail the exam.

Q. You were awarded the 40th Excellence Award from the Judicial Research and Training Institute. Do you have a secret about it?
A. The exam of the Judicial Research and Training Institutejust fit into place for me. My score was better than my effort.I think enjoying studying was mybiggest secret.

Q. Do you have a reason for applying to be a judge?
A. From the beginning, being a judge was my goal. Beginning with going to the training institute I had decided that unconditionally. I think setting precedents is the most worthy goal.

Q. Does it burden you to receive so much attention because of your unique career?
A. Receiving attention is uncomfortable for whatever the reason. I'm not a special person at all. Many people think of me as a special person. In another way, I was suspected of my ability because I didn't major in law like the usual people here. These things mademy life a bit more difficult. To overcome this, I need tomake aconsciouseffort.

Q. What kind of judge would you like to be?
A. There is no absolute truth in the world, however I believe this work which I do is worth realizing the truth. I want to be a judge who contributes to this work even though I can't change the world alone.

Q. Give advice to Kookmin University's students preparing for the bar exam.
A. Study with the decision to 'absolutely pass the exam'. Make an effort and go toward your dream. You should study to realize your own dream, not to think of it as a means of making a living. Concentrate on yourself instead of comparing yourself to others.

Q. What's your final goal in life?
A. This answer is very conventional but I really want to live to help society. I want to promote public interest in whatever I do, wherever I live.

Q. What do you have to say to Kookmin University students?
A. I'm proud of graduating from Kookmin University. Live with pride that we are Kookmin people. You live a part of life in which you can change everything easily. Live a challenging life. You should concentrate on you and live enthusiasticallyinstead of comparingyourself to others.
