Kookmin University will be granted 1.9 billion Won of financial support through the project ‘Support for University Contributing to the Normalization of High School Education’ in 2015 This announcement was made by the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education. Previously, in 2014, Kookmin University was granted with 960 million Won but this amount was increased in 2015 to 1.9 billion Won. Such achievement ranked the university in 2nd place (next only to Seoul National University) among 60 universities nationwide in terms of the amount of financial aid.
Through impact assessment of the university’s entrance exam administration to high school education, the project ‘Support for University Contributing to the Normalization of High School Education’ selects a university and provides it with ideal administrative operation assistance. Since the project’s initial implementation in 2014, it has been evaluated to actually provide improvement in administrative functions by strengthening the undergraduate system in university administration, reducing individual examinations of universities, and expanding equal administration opportunity.
Depending on the previously-announced evaluation indicators, assessment was made through the following categories:
• ratio of recruitment per admission;
• quantitative, qualitative, and comprehensive evaluation such as ratio of administrative elements;
• school education-centered administrative operation;
• equal opportunities for administration; and
• state of administration operation.
According to the Ministry of Education, Kookmin University was highly evaluated as an excellent university particularly on the following aspects:
• significant improvement in both the undergraduate-centered administration for non-scheduled administration and national college entrance exam for the scheduled administration;
• alleviation of the entrance examination burdens (inefficiencies);
• prevention of confusion among the examinees by implementing the undergraduate administration system upon abolition of the minimum score criteria in the national academic aptitude test from undergraduate program centered admission (to be promoted starting in 2016); and
• improvement in the administration services by providing supplemental admission officers.
